How you look as an umpire on the field is important

 

Here are the basic guidelines to help you prepare.

 

Shirts: Two basic colors to get you started.

Navy blue with a red undershirt and red numbers, when assigned.

Powder blue with a white undershirt and navy numbers, when assigned.

 

Pants: heather or charcoal.

 

Socks: always black.

 

Shoes: should be solid black and clean.

 

Belt: solid black.

 

Hat: solid navy or black and worn correctly. Never backwards.

 

Ball Bag: 1 or 2 ball bags for the plate umpire.  Grey, Black, or Navy.  Grey usually for softball.  Black or Navy to match the color hat you wear.

 

Other items needed: Plate brush, indicator, line-up holder and a pen or pencil.

 

As you acquire additional shirt colors, make sure you match the colors of your partners on the field.
